A report by Speedtest Intelligence reveals Safaricom was the fastest mobile operator among top providers in Kenya in Q2 2021 with a Speed Score of 27.54 on modern chipsets.
On a regular basis, the Speedtest Global Index compares internet speed statistics from around the world. The Index is based on the hundreds of millions of tests conducted each month by real users using Speedtest.
Airtel, Faiba, and Telkom followed Safaricom having speeds of 17.48, 14.38, and 8.17 respectively.
On calculating the mean latency, which translates to the time it takes for data to be transferred between its original source and its destination, Faiba had the lowest latency at 27ms. Airtel had the best latency at 38ms, followed by Safaricom and Telkom at 37ms and 33ms respectively.
Safaricom achieved the greatest Consistency Score in Kenya for Q2 2021, with 84.0 percent of results showing at least a 5 Mbps minimum download speed and 1 Mbps minimum upload speed, according to the report. Airtel, Faiba and Telkom followed with a Consistency Score of 74%, 63.3% and 55.9% respectively.

According to a review of performance on some of Kenya’s fastest phones, the iPhone 11 Pro Max had the fastest mean download speed of 39.02 Mbps in Q2 2021.
The iPhone 12 Pro Max 5G, iPhone X, iPhone Xs Max and the iPhone 11 Pro were the other gadgets that made the list.
City internet speeds
Surprisingly, among Kenya’s most populous cities, Mombasa had the fastest mean mobile download speed of 32.12 Mbps and an upload speed of 17.13Mbps in Q2 2021.
Nairobi followed recording a mean downlaod speed of 21.79Mbps and an upload speed of 13.27Mbps. Other cities included were; Kisumu, Nakuru and Eldoret.
