These days, battery packs (better known as power banks) are a must-have item. Power banks can supplement the phone’s own power and provide some peace of mind. Smartphone makers continue to prioritize shrinking a device’s dimensions and thickness over extending the endurance and longevity we get out of our expensive handsets, but they can augment the phone’s own power and provide some peace of mind.
The capacity of modern batteries ranges from 2,000 mAh to 6,000 mAh. However, even a large figure doesn’t always imply that your phone can easily last through a second day of texting, web browsing, Instagram swiping, Spotify streaming, YouTube watching, and whatever else you do. When taken off the charger in the morning, most phones can go through a typical day with some battery life left over, but you can’t expect much more.
So, what are the best options?
Xiaomi Power Bank 3 20,000mAh
This battery pack has an energy reserve of 20000 mAh. This should allow us to charge 4-5 full smartphones or other mobile devices, depending on the capacity of the battery used in a given device.
Thankfully, there are many novelties expected by potential users – certainly one of the most important new features of Mi Power Bank third generation is the support for fast charging technology with power up to 45W. This is, of course, possible thanks to the use of a Type C USB port, which is also a novelty for Xiaomi power banks. Thanks to this addition, it will also be possible to charge laptops with enough power for this purpose.
In addition, the new backup cell will include three type A USB ports for 5V/2.4A, 9V/2A, 12V/1.5A and 5V/3A when charging from two ports. The energy in the powerbank can be replenished in 11 hours using a 10W charger, while using fast charging technology this time can be reduced by up to half.
Xiaomi Mi Power Bank 3 goes for around KES 3,500. You can find it here or here.
BASEUS MagSafe Quick Charging Power Bank
For around KES 5,500, this powerbank is designed to be a convenient MagSafe charger for iPhone users. The 10,000mAh capacity it boasts will allow you to fully charge an iPhone 12 up to 2.4 times. This capacity is far larger than Apples’ very own MagSafe battery. Apple’s charger is more so meant to top you off. But the Baseus battery pack will give you a 0-100 charge a few times over.
Its gloss black area features a display that can show you the percentage of the battery pack and its state of charge. The convenience of being able to see the battery’s exact percentage is something you simply don’t get with a lot of other chargers.
Anker PowerCore 26800
If you haven’t figured it out yet, the PowerCore 26800 has a power capacity of 26,800mAh.
That’s a lot of power, and the best part is that the power bank uses Panasonic battery cells which means the energy loss during charging is kept to a minimum.
This big power capacity will last for days if you’re using it on the extreme side, but it can very well last for a week or maybe even more if you’re going to be using it moderately; Like charging your smartphone only.
It’s a great power bank for road trip purposes and may even last the entirety of the road trip, or simply put that short holiday in your villlage is sorted.

Budget Option – Oraimo Power Banks
I am an avid Oraimo user, and loves every bit. I currently have the OPB-P106D 10,000mAh model and that comfortably charges my 5,000mAh about 1.8 times despite being over a year old now.
Oraimo have powerbanks ranging from 10,000mAh to 27,000mAh and they all come relatively cheap. Some of their models also have fast charging capabilities.
