Just a few days after WWDC, rumors suggest that Apple will release a 15-inch MacBook Air, a 12-inch laptop, and a 14-inch iPad Pro.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, sources familiar with the matter say Apple plans to extend its laptop lineup next year with new, faster in-house CPUs in order to win a larger market share.t.
According to the sources, the company is working on a larger MacBook Air with a 15-inch screen for release as early as next spring. This would be the first model of that size in the 14-year history of the MacBook Air. Apple is also working on its smallest new laptop in years.
The new models highlight Apple’s goal of using in-house processors to win market share in a market dominated by Lenovo Group Ltd. and HP Inc. Apple introduced its latest microprocessor, the M2, at the annual developers conference earlier this week. Better performance and new designs have helped spur a resurgence for the Mac lineup, which accounts for about 10% of Apple’s sales.
Other rumours suggest a 14.1-inch iPad Pro with Mini LED backlighting and ProMotion display is in the works, with a likely release date of early next year. Bloomberg’s Gurman also mentioned that new versions of the 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pros, as well as a larger version that takes advantage of iOS 16’s new multitasking changes, are in the works for release later this year.
Apple is also developing new high-end MacBook Pros with M2 Pro and M2 Max CPUs for the end of 2022, however the release date may be pushed out to early 2023. Beyond the faster CPUs, these new 14-inch and 16-inch models, dubbed J414 and J416, will not be revolutionary. Apple will also release a new 13-inch MacBook Pro with the same M2 CPU as the MacBook Air next month.
