Airtel Kenya has announced the launch of eSIM (embedded SIM), a digital SIM that enables customers to access the same functionality as someone using a physical SIM.
The eSIM technology allows customers to use multiple mobile numbers on one phone/device, without the need to insert or replace a physical SIM card.
According to Airtel Kenya, eSIM offers several benefits such as a seamless device setup experience, reduced risk of damaging or losing the SIM card, and easier switching of network operators for frequent travelers.
Airtel Kenya’s Managing Director, Ashish Malhotra said customer expectations are changing, and the telecom firms have been forced to adapt to that.
“We are confident that our customers will quickly move to our eSlM for what it delivers. Mobile users reward digital convenience therefore as a business we shall continue enabling digital transformation to deliver the full customer experience,” said Malhotra.
To activate an eSIM, customers need to check if their phone is compatible by dialing *#06# on their smartphone. If their device displays an EID number, it means that it is eSIM capable. C
Customers can then visit any Airtel shop where they will be guided on how to set up their eSIM using a QR code.
