Safaricom announced today that it has formed relationships with Little and Makao, allowing M-PESA customers to access services from both companies through the M-PESA Super App, rather than having to download separate apps.
Customers can use the M-PESA Super App’s “Discover” option to access both the Little and Makao M-PESA Mini Apps.
“For 15 years, M-PESA has connected millions of customers to opportunities though a wide range of financial services. Our next evolution focuses on enabling businesses to grow and scale through solutions such as the M-PESA Super App which empowers businesses to reach our more than 30 million customers through digital store fronts in the form of M-PESA Mini Apps. As part of this initiative, we are excited to partner with Little and Makao as Mini App partners who will provide our customers with digital ride solutions and holiday rentals and accommodations from the convenience of the M-PESA Super App,” said Peter Ndegwa, CEO – Safaricom.
Customers can use the Little M-PESA Mini App to order cabs, bodabodas, and restaurants, among other things.
“We are pleased to partner with Safaricom for the M-PESA mini app launch enabling Little customers to order their Little rides within the M-PESA Super App. Our long-standing partnership with Safaricom has been instrumental in our expansion, and the M-PESA mini app presents yet another opportunity to serve our customers conveniently,” said Kamal Budhabatti, CEO – Little.
Customers using the M-PESA App will be able to book short-term housing and holiday houses anywhere in the country using the Makao M-PESA Mini App.
“Makao seeks to provide our customers with an easy way to book accommodation, holidays, or experiences anywhere in Kenya. We are pleased to partner with Safaricom to launch the Makao M-PESA Mini App, which presents our hosts with the opportunity to reach more than 30 million customers and holiday makers with the convenience of easily paying with M-PESA,” said Florence Cheruiyot, CEO – Makao.
Customers who download the Little M-PESA Mini App will receive KSh. 300 off their first two rides for the following month as part of the launch. Customers who book accommodations for the next month using the Makao M-PESA Mini App will receive a 15% discount, while the first ten customers who book rentals in Mombasa will receive complimentary boat rides.
With the addition of the two M-PESA Mini Apps, the M-PESA Super App now has a total of 25 such apps. The SGR Mini App, flight booking Mini App, NSSF Mini App, M-Tiba Mini App, and GiftPesa Mini App for grocery and other retail gift cards are among the various M-PESA Mini Apps.
Safaricom is hoping to collaborate with more than a hundred businesses and organizations to offer their services and products as applications within the M-PESA Super App. These include, among other things, all county services across the country, other government agencies, eCitizen, supermarkets, and restaurants.
The M-PESA Super App was launched in June 2021 and has received over 5 million downloads.
