Safaricom, Kenya’s leading mobile network operator, has teamed up with Vesen, a technology company, and Anga, a cinema chain, to offer a new way for customers to book and pay for movie tickets using the M-PESA Super App.
The Anga M-PESA Mini App, which is accessible from the M-PESA Super App, allows customers to view movie schedules, book seats and pay for tickets at Anga’s three locations in Nairobi: Anga CBD, Anga Diamond and Anga Sky.
The partnership aims to attract more movie lovers to the theatres by providing them with convenience, security and exclusive offers. Customers who use the Anga M-PESA Mini App will also enjoy discounts and cashbacks on their tickets.
Kenneth Kimutai, the managing director of Anga, said that the partnership with Safaricom will enable them to reach more customers on their phones and offer them a preferred payment option.
John Ndungu, the CEO of Vesen Computing, said that his company is proud to provide the technology that connects cinemas to partners like the M-PESA Super App. He said that his goal is to increase customer satisfaction and reduce the long queues in the cinema halls by diversifying ticket sale points.
Peter Ndegwa, the CEO of Safaricom, said that the Anga M-PESA Mini App is part of his company’s ambition to make the M-PESA Super App a digital lifestyle enabler for its customers. He said that the partnership with Anga goes beyond providing movie tickets and adds value to their entertainment experience.
The Anga M-PESA Mini App is one of the more than 45 mini-apps hosted on the M-PESA Super App, which has been downloaded by more than 7.4 million customers. The M-PESA Super App allows customers to access various services and products from different businesses using M-PESA as a payment method. Safaricom handles distribution and marketing for the businesses on the M-PESA Super App while earning transaction fees.
