Safaricom has today launched a promotion on its Lipa Na M-PESA and Pochi La Biashara services that will reward business owners. The campaign comes as businesses around the country are increasingly using M-PESA services.
Lipa Na M-PESA now has over 400,000 enterprises accepting payments, up from 170,000 in March 2020, with another 2 million small businesses using the Pochi La Biashara service.
“Medium-sized firms and small businesses form the backbone of Kenya’s economy accounting for a third of economic output and employing a majority of Kenyans. In recognition, we are celebrating and rewarding all business owners accepting payments on Lipa Na M-PESA and Pochi La Biashara through our Biashara ni Lipa Na M-PESA Promotion,” said Peter Ndegwa, CEO – Safaricom.
For the next eight weeks, all businesses using the Pochi La Biashara and Lipa Na M-PESA Business Till will earn one point for every transaction of KSh. 50 or more they receive or pay out.
The points will entitle business owners to weekly draws in that they could then win one of 128 tuktuks, monthly draws in which they can win one of 16 Isuzu DMAX pickups, and the grand draw in which they can win one of eight Fuso Canters.
Nairobi, Coast, North Eastern, Eastern, Rift, Western, Nyanza, and Mt. Kenya are among the eight regions where the promotion will take place. Every week, each region will award two tuktuks, one pickup every four weeks, and one truck at the grand finale.
Additionally, all Pochi La Biashara business owners can exchange their points for cash at a rate of KSh. 1 per point. For the first three qualifying transactions, all business owners will receive up to 6 minutes of speak time every day.
The campaign comes as Safaricom continues to promote M-PESA solutions for businesses, particularly SMEs and small firms.
The M-PESA Business Till allows business owners to use their Lipa Na M-PESA collections to make payments and transmit money to other M-PESA Tills, such as when paying suppliers, individuals, and more. Business owners have the option of withdrawing money to an agent or transferring money to a bank account.
The M-PESA Business Super App gives businesses a real-time picture of how much money is flowing in and going out of their business. They can also use the super app’s Business Till feature to make payments.
Pochi La Biashara is a small business solution that allows owners to accept payments via M-“Send PESA’s Money” feature. It allows business owners to keep their business money distinct from their personal money.
Lipa Na M-PESA business owners can check their points on the M-PESA Business App while those on Pochi La Biashara can dial *334#.
