Airtel Kenya has today announced the launch of its 5G network in the country, becoming the second operator to introduce the fifth-generation technology after Safaricom.
The company said it has deployed 370 5G sites across 16 counties in Kenya, covering major urban centers such as Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Nakuru and Eldoret.
The launch of 5G will enable Airtel customers to enjoy superfast internet speeds of up to 50Gbps, high quality streaming, low latency, increased availability, improved reliability, higher performance and stable connectivity. Airtel Kenya said it has invested heavily in upgrading its network infrastructure to meet the growing demand for data services in the country.
Pricing and packages
Airtel has introduced comprehensive 5G home broadband and enterprise packages, catering to the needs of different user segments. For home users, Airtel offers the 5G Ultra bundles, providing daily allocations of 10GB or 20GB, with prices starting from KES 2,999 for a 30-day validity period.
Enterprise customers can also benefit from the new 5G network with unlimited broadband packages tailored to their requirements. Airtel offers three different options: the 5G Unlimited 10Mbps package priced at KES 3,500, the 5G Unlimited 30Mbps package priced at KES 5,500, and the 5G Unlimited 50Mbps package priced at KES 7,500. These packages guarantee high-speed, stable connectivity for businesses, supporting their digital transformation and increasing productivity.
In addition, Airtel Kenya introduced its 5G router, a compact device that can connect up to 64 devices simultaneously and provide lightning-fast 5G speeds. The router is compatible with 3G and 4G LTE networks, ensuring seamless connectivity across different locations.
Customers who purchase the router will receive a one-time bonus of 10GB free data upon completing the Know Your Customer (KYC) process.
Furthermore, Airtel Kenya announced a special incentive for customers who upgrade to a new 5G-enabled smartphone. Upon activating their 5G smartphone on the Airtel network, they will receive a one-time bonus of 10GB free data. The company said this offer is aimed at encouraging more customers to embrace the extraordinary possibilities of 5G through a range of affordable devices.
Airtel Kenya has chosen Kenya as the second market on the continent to introduce 5G technology, following its initial deployment in Nigeria. The company said it plans to roll out 5G in other African countries such as Tanzania and Zambia in the near future.

How to get connected
To get connected, a payment of KES 10,000 as a connection fee for the Home Broadband 5G router is required. You have the option to purchase the router at any Airtel shop or selected Partner shops.
