Elon Musk has announced a new policy that aims to support creators and increase their earnings on ๐, formerly Twitter.
In a series of tweets on Thursday, Musk said that ๐ would keep nothing from the payouts of creators until they exceed $100,000, and then only take 10%. He also said that the first 12 months of using the platform would be free for all users.
“Super Important to Support Creators! If you can afford it, please subscribe to as many creators on this platform as you find interesting,” Musk tweeted.
“People from every corner of the world post incredible content on ๐, but often live in tough circumstances, where even a few hundred dollars a month changes their life,” he added.
Musk said that the new policy was an amendment to the previous one, which stated that ๐ would keep nothing for the first 12 months, and then 10%.
“While we had previously said that ๐ would keep nothing for the 12 months, then 10%, we are amending that policy to ๐ keeps nothing forever, until payout exceeds $100k, then 10%. First 12 months is still free for all,” he wrote.
Musk also addressed the issue of Apple’s 30% cut from in-app purchases, which affects the earnings of creators on ๐. He said that he would speak with Apple’s CEO Tim Cook and try to negotiate a lower fee.
“Apple does take 30%, but I will speak with @tim_cook and see if that can be adjusted to be just 30% of what ๐ keeps in order to maximize what creators receive,” he tweeted.
Musk’s announcement was met with positive reactions from many users and creators on ๐, who thanked him for his generosity and vision.
In late July, ๐ made an announcement about its global “Ads Revenue Sharing” initiative, which was unveiled by ๐ owner Elon Musk. The program’s main objective is to distribute $5 million in creator payments during the initial round, accumulating from February onwards.
Numerous creators reported receiving substantial payouts, some ranging from five to six figures, as a direct result of this program.
To qualify for the program, ๐ users are required to subscribe to Blue (formerly Twitter Blue) or Verified Organizations and must have achieved “at least 15M impressions on your cumulative posts within the last 3 months,” as stated on the creator program’s website. Additionally, users must have a minimum of 500 followers.
๐ is one of the latest ventures of Musk, who is also the founder and CEO of SpaceX, Tesla, Neuralink, and The Boring Company.
Elon Musk surprised Twitter users by unveiling a revamped version of the social media platform Twitter. This included a complete rebranding, with a name change and a new logo that deviated from the traditional blue bird emblem to ๐.
Musk’s vision for the ๐ is to transform it into an “everything app” similar to WeChat, a Chinese multi-functional platform that incorporates messaging, voice and video calls, social media features, mini-programs, payment services, and numerous other functionalities.
