Airtel Money Kenya Limited announced Thursday it will increase its per-transaction limit to KES 250,000 from the previous KES 150,000 starting September 1.
The increase comes after successful discussions with the Central Bank of Kenya and follows the recent lifting of daily transaction limits from KES 300,000 to KES 500,000, according to a statement.
“With the increase of the per-transaction limit, Airtel Money customers will experience convenience as they will not have to go through the hassle of breaking large transactions into multiple smaller transactions,” said Airtel Money Kenya Managing Director Anne Kinuthia-Otieno.
Charges for transactions between KES 150,001 and KES 250,000 will remain the same as those previously charged for transactions between KES 70,001 and KES 150,000.
Kinuthia-Otieno said incorporating the new band of transactions without additional fees is part of Airtel’s commitment to providing customers “flexible and personalized solutions while at the same time delivering to them exceptional value for their money.”
“That signifies our commitment towards convenience and affordability,” she said.
The change will allow small and medium-sized enterprises and individuals to more efficiently pay suppliers, employees and transfer money, according to the statement.
Airtel said its focus on affordability aims to provide unmatched value so customers can make transactions without worrying about costs. The company also said it remains dedicated to offering innovative solutions and unmatched customer experiences.
Thursday’s announcement comes as Airtel continues to expand its services and modernize Kenya’s mobile money sector, which has grown rapidly over the past decade.
